Chazon Yerushalayim
Jerusalem Vision
Jerusalem, Israel
Chazon Yerushalayim (Jerusalem
Vision) is an outreach ministry, directed by
Pastor Shmuel & Pamela
Suran, that is reaching out to many Israelis.
“Behold, the virgin
shall conceive (shall become pregnant), and bear a Son, and (she)
shall call His name Emmanuel (meaning God with us)“ (Isaiah
7:14) “Next Year in Jerusalem?”

Shmuel Suran
God truly works in mysterious ways—in 1972, fascinated by Leonardo DaVinci’s
painting of the Last Supper, Shmuel Suran picked up the New Testament for the
first time in his life and began reading. Pastor Suran was stunned to see the
genealogy of Jesus traced back to David and Abraham—two figures
very familiar to him, considering his Jewish heritage.
|
In his own words, Suran recounts
his initial astonishment: “I
had grown up thinking and believing that Jesus was a Christian,
the God of Christianity, and that He had something to do with
the Vatican, the Roman Catholic Church, the Pope and Mary but
that
He had nothing to do with the Jewish people. The Son of David,
the Son of Abraham…Yeshua (the Hebrew word for Jesus) was
a Jew!”
This discovery would ignite in Shmuel Suran a passion for Jesus,
altering the entire course of his life. As he read on in the
book of Matthew, Shmuel was deeply moved by His teachings and
compassion
for the “lost sheep of the house of Israel, for lost, broken
and needy people” everywhere. However, it was only after
reading accounts of the Crucifixion and Resurrection that God
began revealing to Shmuel the true identity of Jesus Christ.
Shmuel was particularly struck by the phrase proclaiming Jesus
the “King of the Jews”. He struggled with this paradox: “How
could the God of Christianity be the King of the Jews?” According
to Shmuel however, God eventually lifted the “veil of spiritual
blindness over my Jewish mind.” After meditating on Christ’s
immense suffering on the cross and reading about His resurrection,
Pastor Suran suddenly recognized Jesus as not merely the “King
of the Jews”, but as the promised Jewish Messiah.
As a newly proclaimed Messianic Jew, Pastor Suran immediately began
introducing Yeshua the Messiah to his family, friends, and Jewish
acquaintances in New York City. In 1974, based on a personal call
from God, he moved to Israel to directly minister to Jews living
in the Holy Land. In the years following, Pastor Suran has lived
in both Jerusalem and the Galilee region in northern Israel, sharing
the Gospel with Israelis and Arabs, Jews and Muslims alike.
After enduring persecution such as death threats and attacks
ordered by the chief Rabbi in a settlement town near Nazareth,
Pastor Suran
moved to Tiberias, establishing a community of several hundred
Messianic Jews. However, God called Shmuel and his wife Pamela—an
artist whose paintings depict God’s prophesies for Israel—back
to Jerusalem in 1985. Over the course of a decade in the Holy
City, group Bible studies in the home of Shmuel and Pamela grew
into
a full-fledged congregation.
In 1999, Pastor Suran began his ministry Chazon Yerushalayim, or
Jerusalem Vision, with the goal of advancing the Gospel of Christ
in Israel. Five years after its inception, Jerusalem Vision consists
of 5 areas of evangelism: The Jerusalem House ministers to the
large number of different religious and cultural groups in Israel,
while the Elijah Project distributes copies of the New Testament
to these diverse groups, written in their native languages such
as Hebrew, Arabic, and Russian. The Jerusalem Healing Rooms serve
as a place of compassion for those in need of spiritual or physical
healing, and the Victims of Terror and Benevolence Fund reaches
out with the love of Christ to Israeli citizens suffering trauma
from terrorist attacks. Finally, the Light to the Nations program
encourages Christians around the world to become partners in prayer
with the Messianic Jewish congregations serving the Lord in Jerusalem
today by both praying for, and sending prayer request to, our brothers
in Christ at Jerusalem Vision.
Please pray for Shmuel and Pamela Suran as they work to make
Jerusalem Vision a true Light to the Nations by reaching out
to Jews and
Muslims living in Israel with the good news of the Gospel. In
the face of massive religious, social, and political unrest,
pray for
God’s protection over their ministry as they attempt to bring “hope,
encouragement, and a new vision to Israel that Jesus has a plan
for them in His coming Kingdom.”
